John D. MacArthur

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park in North Palm Beach boasts tangles of mangrove swamps, trails that meander through canopies of trees, and a vast walkway that traverses a lagoon – never mind almost two miles of unspoiled beach on the Atlantic Ocean.

Manatees roam the waters of southeast Florida from April through October -- but when things get a bit chilly, they head to places like freshwater Florida springs, where the temperatures remain constant throughout the year.

It may not seem warm when you jump into a freshwater spring, but the water temperatures remain around 70 degrees, which is perfect for manatees in Florida who need that kind of warmth to survive.

Seeing a large number of Florida manatees in one place is an amazing experience, but just remember these gentle sea cows are there for survival.

Peanut Island is a favorite destination for boaters.  Even in the Fall, Peanut Island offers lots of fun with fishing, snorkeling, and camping opportunities within the beautiful clean waters that surround it.  Take a casual stroll on the paved pathways which wrap around the Island as well as the guarded and unguarded beaches for a day of fun in the sun.

The island was created in 1918 as a result of material excavated during the Inlet construction. Its name comes from a peanut oil production plant which its primary function was to serve as a shipping terminal.  It wasn't a success. In 1946, the government abandoned the plant retaining the name of the island. They then turned it into a "spoil site for the inlet maintenance and shipping channel". …
