Palm Beach County is one of the fishing capitals of the world for good reason. The Gulf Stream, a warm and swift Atlantic Ocean current that originates in the Gulf of Mexico, is closest to land near Palm Beach and Jupiter Inlet, providing abundant amounts of pelagic fish species as close as ¼ mile offshore.

If you don’t have a boat of your own, we have compiled this list of friendly local fishing charters for your convenience. The main target species in our area are mahi-mahi, kingfish, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, snook, snapper, grouper, and tripletail. Swordfish charters are also available for a pricier fee since a lot more specialty knowledge and work goes into a successful trip.

Known as one of the prettiest fish on a Florida reef, parrotfish have vibrant patterned scales of green, blue, purple, yellow, and red. If you’re diving on one of our local natural or artificial reefs, you’re bound to see a few of these gentle beauties grazing on the bottom.

Parrotfish spend up to 90% of their day eating algae and dead coral- basically cleaning the reef! This is so important, because without their help, reefs would be smothered by growth and die.

To top it off, after eating all of…

If you have been to the beach lately, you've probably seen the incredible amount of seaweed washed up on our coastline. South Florida is currently experiencing substantial amounts of seaweed beaching up on the coastline. Due to this influx of seaweed, Palm Beach County has taken the initiative to protect turtle season and keep locals happy.

On the north end of the county, researchers at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Juno Beach, are keeping an eye on it, making sure it doesn’t negatively impact nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings. The influx of seaweed is called sargassum and occurs naturally. Blooms that are happening offshore, and getting pushed onto the beaches, it is all based on winds and tides and surf.  When the area experiences storms, it…
