This Friday, May 4th, enjoy a free movie at the beautiful Commons Park in Royal Palm Beach as well as a gourmet food truck invasion featuring 6 different local trucks.

The food trucks will be in the park around 6 p.m. and the hit movie "Jumanji" will be projected on the lawn at 8. Bring a blanket or chairs to get comfortable.

The streets of downtown Abacoa Jupiter will be shut down at noon on Saturday to prepare for a Cinco de Mayo Block Party for all ages from 4-10 p.m.

There will be lots of fun things for the kids to do from 4-6 p.m. including mini golf, face painting, temporary tattoos and a pinata.

For the adults there will be a cornhole tournament, beer pong and a dance party all evening long. DAS Beer Garden will be serving a Cinco de Mayo-inspired beer list with tequila barrel-aged brews, Mexican coffee stouts, margarita goses and churro cider. After 10 p.m., the DJ will bring the party inside DAS where the party continues until midnight. Other bars on the town center strip will be participating as well.

If going to a sweat-filled gym doesn't sound appealing to you, try Workout Wednesdays at CityPlace for a fun, outdoor group activity varying from yoga to Zumba. 

Every last Wednesday of the month, CityPlace hosts a free workout on the plaza featuring different workouts taught by certified trainers from L.A. Fitness and Fitness Hub.

If you've never participated in a group class, this is a good way to try it out before you pay money somewhere else.

Workouts are from 6-7 p.m. Wear workout clothes, bring some water and a yoga mat. Invite your friends and hang around CityPlace afterward- most stores are open until 10 and the restaurants and bars are open late.

According to a new ATTOM Data Solutions real estate study, May is the best month to sell your home.

ATTOM collected data on 14.7 million homes sold across the country from 2011-2017 to see which months had the highest return for sellers. May had the most premiums above market value more than any other time of the year nationwide. 

However, the best month did vary by market; most of the eastern Florida is actually better for sellers in June while Miami, known for its warm weather, sells greatest in January.

United Technologies (UTC) opened a showcase center last Tuesday that has already brought 380 new jobs to Palm Beach Gardens. 

The new 224,000 square-foot, glass-enclosed building is a museum-like showcase center of the best new technology from around the world that is designed to reduce energy use in big buildings. This includes glass-encased, energy-efficient elevators and escalators, ductless air conditioning, apps for smart phones, and AutomatedLogic, an automation system that links together all building systems. The devices on display are designed to reduce energy use by 60%, water use by 36%, carbon dioxide by 60%, and outside water by 100%, according to UTC.

Bring a blanket and chairs and head over to the amphitheater from 6-8 p.m. for a free concert with a variety of music each week.

As snow birds head north and tourism slows, the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County is starting a new discount program called MOSAIC, which offers low rates and coupons for local attractions and resorts. 

MOSAIC is an acronym for "month of shows, art, ideas, and culture" and will run May 1st-31st. The goal is to encourage residents to visit the area's museums, science centers, galleries, etc. Some coupons include free admission to concerts and performances, 50% off tickets to places like the Kravis Center, and 2-for-1 deals like entry into Mounts Botanical Gardens.

 A new safety feature, text-to-911, will be ready to launch this June in Palm Beach County. This option will allow people who are in danger and can't speak to text a dispatch officer and summon help. 

People having a medical emergency that prevents them from talking, or those who are in situations where speaking is not safe can utilize text-to-911 to reach authorities. For instance, one woman in Orange County, Florida was hiding in a closet while someone invaded her home and she was able to communicate with police through text. Palm Beach County officials also say the system will especially benefit those who are deaf or have hearing problems.
