If you want to learn some local history, you and your family can visit the historic Henry Flagler house in Palm Beach.

The museum is a great way to get a sense of the early 20th Century aristocracy. When it was completed in 1902, the New York Herald proclaimed that “Whitehall”, was "more wonderful than any palace in Europe, grander and more magnificent than any other private dwelling in the world."

Today, Whitehall is a National Historic Landmark and is open to the public as the Flagler Museum, featuring guided tours, changing exhibits, and special programs.

Formally known as Whitehall, the Flagler Museum is one of the most famous homes and landmarks on the island of Palm Beach. The grand estate features 100,000 square feet and was built in 1902 by Henry Flagler as a wedding gift to his wife Mary.

Flagler was an American Industrialist and founder of Standard Oil and is known for developing Florida’s East Coast and responsible for making Palm Beach, America’s first resort destination. For the construction of the estate, Flagler commissioned John Carrere and Thomas Hastings to design and build the mansion. Carrere and Hastings were also the architects for the New York Public Library and the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City during the Gilded Age.

The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is hosting their monthly Nights At The Museum event on Friday, June 28th. The monthly event occurs on the last Friday of each month.

During the night, guests of all ages are welcomed to enjoy the extended hours to explore the Science Center and Aquarium. The Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens is the former residence of sculptor Ann Weaver Norton. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is located on 2 acres near downtown West Palm Beach. The historic home and gardens feature a collection of 250 species of tropical palms.

Throughout the home, studio and gardens there is more than 100 pieces of art made by Norton herself. Some of the pieces of artwork include: 9 monumental sculptures, eight in brick and one in granite. The Norton Gardens is the largest tract of garden containing the great brick sculptures that are designed in a natural and unmanicured style.

On the last Friday of each month, from 6-9pm, guests of all ages can enjoy extended hours of exploration at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium.

Each Night at the Museum is a different theme, which includes various interactive science crafts, activities, entertainment, exhibits, planetarium shows, and a chance to view the night sky in Palm Beach County's only public observatory! The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach has recently reopened after being closed for months of renovations. The Museum hosts their Art After Dark series on Friday nights.

Every Friday night the museum stays open later for the event and features a series of different programs every week. The next Art After Dark series is this Friday, April 5th and this week will feature a performance by Poet Lenelle Moise. Moise will perform both music and poems that move between the memories of her growing up as a Haitian immigrant and pop culture. Ellen E. Roberts will be there leading a Curator Conversation about the Ralston Crawford Across Media exhibition and the museum’s cinema will present the classic film “Moon Over Miami” in the gardens of the museum.

If you live in Wellington, this Sunday the 31st join the Palm Beach Museum of Natural History for a dirt-filled event called “Archaeo Fest” from 12 to 5 pm at the Mall at Wellington Green.

This is the perfect event for kids that love history and dinosaurs. Activities include flint-knapping, atlati throwing demos, necklace making, pottery village, fossil finder labs and more.

Cost is $5 for kids ages 3-12, $8 for kids ages 13 and up and free for children under 2.
