After a nice morning at the beach or midday lunch break, Jupiter has great options for delicious sandwiches. We can thank Edward Montagu, known as the inventor of the sandwich. Nevertheless, the first food item called sandwich was in the first century BC and Rabbi Hillel the Elder. During Passover, he placed roast lamb, nuts, and vegetables between two old pieces of unleavened bread.

The sandwich as we know it was popularized in England in 1762 by John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. During a particularly long gambling binge, he asked the house cook to bring him something he could eat without getting up from his seat, and the sandwich was born.

Try any of the following five eateries for a tasty sandwich in Jupiter.

The Bistro in Jupiter is a neighborhood place. It is first-class and upscale inside, but not stuffy. If you know The Palm Beach Grill or Mark’s at CityPlace, you know the feel - crisp napkins, polished glassware, lively bar, white tablecloths, crescent shaped booths that are deeply cushioned and cozy, the murmur of happy diners in the background but not loud.

While perusing the menu and sampling the warm fresh sunflower seed-studded rolls served in a linen lined basket. A long ceramic dish with chicken liver pate, fresh cool butter, and herb and garlic seasoned olive oil accompanied the rolls. The menu is indeed bursting with bistro fare and the prices are reasonable and the quality is impressive.

Favorites on the menu are:
