The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is preparing this week to release another healthy sea turtle back into the ocean.

Willis, is a large juvenile loggerhead sea turtle that was found in the canal at the Florida Power and Light’s St. Lucie site in Jensen Beach. The sea turtle was found with saltwater leeches and barnacles on its shell and was slightly underweight and its bloodwork showed signs of poor health.

This Wednesday, Willis will be released back into the Atlantic Ocean at 10:30 am. Pre-release procedures will begin at 10 am. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center staff will go over the turtles injures and recovery since Willis first entered the center back in June.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, the ultimate party boat goes on a relaxing Sunset Cruise along the intracoastal waterways of Jupiter.

The PonTiki, is a pontoon boat that features a friendly captain that takes you on a tour to some of the best sightseeing areas to watch the sunset.

The sunset cruise takes place on one of their newest boats Shaka. Shaka is the largest boat of the Pontiki Fleet so far. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center Officials have spotted a record number of sea turtle nest along Jupiter and Juno Beach this year and the count is expected to continue to grow.

As of the latest count in the beginning of August, there were a total of 19,580 sea turtle nests on the 9.5 miles of Palm Beach County beaches. In 2017, the record was 19,085 and this year we have broken that record. The sea turtle nesting season starts on March 1st through October 31st.

So far, there has been 186 leatherbacks, 13,111 loggerhead nests and 6,283 green sea turtle nests when the latest count was counted. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s Facebook page keeps the most accurate and updated count. The current nest totals add up to more than 1.3 million estimated sea…

The popular Climb and Paddle event at the Jupiter Lighthouse is this Tuesday, August 20th starting at 10 am. The adventure starts with a climb to the top of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse to see great views of Jupiter and the water.

After the climb, visitors will meet members of the Jupiter Outdoor Center where you receive your paddle boards or kayaks and travel through the waters of the Jupiter Inlet and surrounding waterways. You may even see sea turtles, manatee, birds and other marine and wildlife along the journey which are frequently spotted during this event.

This Saturday join a group of Blue Friends and Lynne Wells and head to Juno Beach for their monthly beach clean-up. The beach clean-ups occur on the third Saturday of every month.

The clean- up starts at 8:30 am and last approximately an hour long. Following the clean-up there will be a light breakfast sponsored by Another Broken Egg Café and Whole Foods Market. Complimentary coffee will be provided by Oceana Coffee.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is hosting their Sunrise Nest Excavation this August. The Sunrise Nest Excavations started on Thursday, August 1st, where the Marinelife Center staff will give the public an insight into their Research Department.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center has gotten permission from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to allow the public into their department. The unique program is led by a permitted staff member who will lead the guests down to the Juno or Tequesta beaches to talk about the nesting and hatching process of sea turtles. The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is a non-profit sea turtle research, rehabilitation center and sea turtle hospital whose mission is aimed to protect the ocean and all that live in it. The Marinelife Center provides treatment and care for endangered and injured sea turtles before being released into the ocean.

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach offers a special program that allows you to Adopt a Sea Turtle. By adopting a sea turtle, you help benefit the continuous care and treatment for the sick, endangered and injured sea turtles. You will also help by furthering the studies of green, leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles that nest along Juno Beach, Jupiter and Tequesta from March to the end of October.

The Jupiter Outdoor Center and the Jupiter Lighthouse and Museum is hosting their reoccurring Climb and Paddle event this Friday, August 9th.

The tour begins and ends at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse with an hour paddle around the Jupiter Inlet and surrounding waterways an hour before the start time. The event begins at 2 pm and check in starts 15 minutes before at the Lighthouse Museum Gift Shop.

Children under 16 must be accompanied to climb and paddle and children must be 6 years old to participate in the program. Personal kayaks and paddle boards are not permitted.
