The nearly 10 mile stretch of beach that the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center monitor has counted to date 69 nests, which is significantly more than normal for this time of year.  Each nest usually contains roughly about 100 eggs that require 45 days to 60 days to hatch.

Juno Beach is one of the largest sea turtle nesting locations in the world. The main reason why Juno Beach is the most populated sea turtle nesting location is because of the close proximity to the Gulf Stream current that bends towards Florida.

With the warmer weather fast approaching, getting out on a boat is one of South Florida’s favorite activities. Since 2010, the State of Florida has required that any person who wishes to operate a vessel of 10 horsepower or more and is born after January 1st, 1988, must pass and complete a Boating Safety Course.

Florida does not have a “boating license” but a Boating Safety Education Identification Card. The card is proof of a successful completion of the course and a pass on the exam.  The Identification Card is valid for life and no renewal fees or continuing education course is required once the course is completed and the exam is passed. However, you are asked to continue to review and follow the current boating rules and regulations.

Bathtub Reef is one of Hutchinson Island’s best beaches. The beach has soft sand, warm water, and lots of room to lounge and layout in the sun.

Bathtub Beach is special, due in large part to this reef system just offshore, home to more than 500 marine creatures, including endangered sea turtles. This reef system is created by tiny tube-building Sabellariid sea worms and is not only incredibly unique but also an extremely fragile one. The worms cement sand grains together, creating a vast network of tube dwellings. Colonies build on top of one another over time and create a reef system that helps break waves in the summer months, creating a “bathtub effect.”

During the calmer seas of spring and summer, it is normal to see sandbars inching toward…
