Three-time Emmy Award winner and wildlife advocate Jeff Corwin will be the keynote speaker at the Tenth Annual Go Blue Awards Luncheon.

“Go Blue” recognizes businesses, non-profits, and individuals who have promoted, implemented, or contributed to improve and protect our oceans, beaches, and wildlife.

Rocktoberfest is a free music festival with bands playing at the Abacoa amphitheatre and on street stages, with the addition of craft beer trucks, food tents, giant beer pong, artists and craft vendors, and even the Oktoberfest-inspired stein-holding contest. Jonathan Dickinson State Park is a historic site located in Martin County between Hobe Sound and Tequesta, and is the largest state park in southeast Florida. The park includes the Elsa Kimbell Environmental Education and Research Center and a variety of natural habitats. The Loxahatchee River, which runs through the park, was the first river in Florida designated as a National Wild and Scenic River.

 

History:

The park is named after Jonathan Dickinson, a Quaker merchant who was shipwrecked in 1696, with his family and others, on the Florida coast near the present-day park. He wrote a journal describing their encounters with local tribes, and their journey up the coast to St. Augustine.

On Thursday, September 20th, the Loxahatchee River Center will be holding a home school workshop entitled “Shark Senses and Habitat” from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

This drop off only program will include a hands-on activity about sharks, and is geared towards children ages 5-11. Registration is required to attend, and cost is $3 per child.

On September 23rd, Eau Palm Beach Resort will be hosting the third annual Burger & Beer Bash to fundraise for Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

Not only will a portion of proceeds benefit efforts to save the sea turtles, but event-goers will have the pleasure of participating as “judges” of burger-and-beer pairings. Eau’s head chefs will partner with local breweries in a friendly competition, and guests will enjoy all pairings before indicating their favorites on a ballot.

Participating area breweries include Due South, Copperpoint, Funky Buddha, SaltWater Brewery and Tequesta Brewing Company.
