Jack Nicklaus has designed close to 300 golf courses all over the world including the Bears Club in Jupiter, but none are more important to him right now than a nine-hole facility in Washington State. That’s because this facility has been specifically designed for, and open only to military veterans.

The American Lake Veterans Golf Course is a nine-hole facility in Lakewood, Washington that Nicklaus built. The Lost Tree resident is now working on a nine-hole expansion and turning the facility into a full 18-hole golf course.

Nicklaus is giving more than half a million dollars’ worth of expertise in designing the expansion for the course that is routinely used by wounded veterans for physical and mental rehabilitation.

Andrew Kozan’s first love was baseball. The Palm Beach Gardens resident started on the diamond at the age of four. A year later, something happened that very well could be life changing for the 14 year old: he discovered the game of golf.

Not wanting to play a team sport anymore, the freshman at King’s Academy in West Palm Beach took up golf and has not looked back since.

“I decided I didn’t want to play a team sport like that,” Kozan said, “where you have to depend so much on everyone else’s performance. I wanted to play a game with more independence, and my mom took me out to play golf one day and I loved it.”

That decision by his mom has proven to be a good one as Andrew has already won three times on…

This year’s Labor Day weekend is predicted to see more Americans hit the road than in the past five years.  IHS Global Insight and AAA Travel cite the country’s improved employment situation and recovering home values for the upswing in the economy and the spike in travel plans.  Their reports predict that 34.1 million people will travel 50 miles or more within the country this Labor Day weekend. Beaches and barbeques are the conjecture for most.

“AAA is forecasting a lift in Labor Day travel this year due to the increasingly positive economic outlook and optimism in the housing market,” said AAA President and CEO Robert L. Darbelnet.  He is also quoted as saying, “For many Americans, their home is their biggest asset, as home prices improve in many parts…

It is every golfers dream to one day get their PGA Tour card and play at the highest level of professional golf. For two local golfers, those dreams could soon become a reality.

Despite missing the cut at the season ending Cox Classic on the Web.com tour, Jupiter resident Jamie Lovemark finished 12th on the regular season money list. With the top 25 on the money list automatically securing PGA Tour cards before the playoffs even start, Lovemark has ensured at least some type of status on the PGA Tour for next season.

Lovemark won the Midwest Classic back in July and finished the regular season with a win, three top-10 finishes and six top-25 finishes. He will have an opportunity to improve on that position and even achieve…

West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio announced on Thursday that the West Palm Beach Golf Course will shut down its clubhouse by the end of the weekend.

The announcement came only a few days after residents and the city considered spending money to fix up the aging, existing clubhouse. The current building, which was built around 1947, leaks and has problems with lead, termite, and asbestos.

Golf operations will immediately be moved to a trailer and restrooms will be available in the golf cart garage. The Bradley’s Hole-in-One restaurant will close down, however Bradley’s will still be allowed to operate a snack cart.

No announcement has been made on when or if a new clubhouse will be built.
