On Monday, children of all ages strapped on their helmets, grabbed their skateboards, and headed to the newly renovated Palm Beach Gardens skate park for the first day of the week long skate camp.

The skate park on Plant Drive, just behind Palm Beach Gardens High School, reopened in June after a $162,000 renovation. The renovation included replacing worn wooden ramps with new concrete pyramids and a “fun box” was added for skateboarders to ride on. In addition to the renovations made inside the park, new sidewalks, fences, and landscaping were added surrounding the park.

The skate park is open Monday through Saturday from 9am until 12pm and 4pm to 9pm and on Sundays from 4pm to 9pm all summer. Bikers are allowed to use the park on Wednesdays and Sundays…

The Palm Beach Shakespeare Festival and Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation will present the 23rd annual Shakespeare by the Sea. This year’s production will be Coriolanus and will be performed at the Seabreeze Amphitheatre in Carlin Park in Jupiter.

The production will run July 11-14 and July 18-21 and admission is free with a $5 donation suggestion per person. Gates for all the performances open at 6:30 with pre-show entertainment from Court Jester Richard Ribuffo.

On Saturday, about a dozen dogs traded in their leashes for live vests and rode surfboards as part of the first event Dog Surfing Competition. Taking to the beach just south of Carlin Park in Jupiter, the event raised money for the Wellington based Big Dog Ranch Rescue.

Despite the rough waves and rip currents, over 500 people and their “furry friends” attended the event put on by Ocean Magic Surf Shop in Jupiter.

Big Dog Ranch is a no-kill dog rescue facility that provides shelter, care, and affection to homeless and unwanted dogs of all breeds. They then adopt the dogs to people that are willing and able to take them.

The event was so successful that Ocean Magic hopes to make the dog surfing competition an annual event. Months were spent organizing…

Palm Beach Gardens resident R.J. Nakashian shot a 4-under 68 in Sunday’s Final round to win the ninth annual Bobby Bryant Mid-Seniors Championship.

Nakashian birdied five of his first seven holes Sunday to extend the two shot lead he started the day with. He went on to post a two day total of 9-under to win the event being held at The Wanerers Club in Wellington by five strokes.

It was the 17th Palm Beach County Golf Association Title of his career and the second of the 2013 season, winning the Stroke Play Classic in May. This was Nakashian’s second Mid-Seniors Championship. He also won the event in 2008.

A pair of Jupiter brothers are bringing an National Football League experience to local football players ages 7 through 18 on June 28 and 29 at Jupiter High School.

Matt and J.B. Clark are both graduates from Jupiter High School and former football players. After graduating high school, J.B. went on to play at LeHigh University before briefly playing for the Buffalo Bills of the NFL.

The two brothers, both standouts at the high school level, will be hosting the first annual Get Liive Football Camp this weekend in Jupiter.

On Wednesday, the Miami Dolphins announced the dates and times of the fourth annual Dolphins Cycling Challenge or DCC. The DCC is a two-day cycling event with ten ride options ranging from 13 miles to 170 miles. The event will encompass Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties and will benefit the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The two day cycling event will take place on November 2nd and 3rd with 100% of rider-raised funds going to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Since 2010, the DCC has raised nearly $4 million and will look to add to that with this year’s two-day event.

Hike Through History
July 6, 8-10am 

This tour takes you on a winding, 2-mile hike through the grounds of the Lighthouse. You will learn about the topography of the 120-acre preserve.
