Hurricane season begins in the Atlantic Ocean on June 1st and continues until November 30th. For a few short days, shoppers can save money by putting together and gathering your stockpiles to prepare in case of a storm.

South Florida has been lucky the past few years and avoided hurricanes and tropical storms but it always smart to think ahead. The 10-day sales tax holiday begins this Friday, May 28th and will continue until Sunday, June 6th. During this time, shoppers can avoid paying sales tax on these items.

April is known for its beautiful spring weather and the start of the warmer summer weather for most. Luckily for us living in South Florida, April is just another beautiful month filled with warm temperatures and sunshine.

April is the fourth month of the Gregorian calendar, but that was not always the case. During the Julian Calendar, April was the fifth month and had 29 days prior to being part of the Julian Calendar. The 30th day was added by Julius Caesar during the Julian Calendar.

Here are some more interesting facts about the month of April.

In the Southern Hemisphere, April is the seasonal equivalent to the fall month October.

The word April comes from the verb “aperire” which means to open. Its commonly believed that the word refers…

Its that time of year again, where we change the clocks ahead one hour and look forward to spring, summer, and longer daylight. This Sunday, March 14th at 2 am is when the official Daylight Savings Time begins and lasts until November 7th.

Daylight Savings Time requires most of the country to turn their clocks ahead one hour. Former Governor Rick Scott and Florida Lawmakers signed a bill in 2018 called the Sunshine Protection Act that would make the permanent change across the country, but the bill has not taken effect yet. The bill is still waiting on congressional approval.

On the morning of Jan. 19, 1977, snow fell in Palm Beach County.  I remember this day clearly as if it were yesterday!  I was in sixth grade at a small private school in West Palm Beach. It was 6:15 am and we left the house to get into my mother’s car for the long ride from the north end of the county south end to school.  On this exceptionally cold morning we blew “smoke” from our mouths with delight. That kind of cold rarely happened here in South Florida.  Then the most unexpected thing occurred…flurries…flurries of snow!!! Forty years ago today it snowed in Palm Beach County! It was AMAZING!!!

The 27-degree temperature recorded at Palm Beach International Airport on the day of the snowfall is the record low for the area. The snow that day had…

One of the nicest things about South Florida is its nearly year-round warm weather. Many of us, however, are more than happy when we get a brief, moderate cold front during the holidays. That’s exactly what is set to happen this week.

Today (Monday the 19th) will be the warmest day this week, temperatures will drop starting tomorrow and it should be in the 50s by mid-week, so if you live in South Florida get ready to light your fires and break out your Winter coats for it’s about to get chilly.

One of the huge draws to our gorgeous area is, of course, the weather. And given the fact that, according to the New York Times, 8% of all Floridians were born in New York, 4% in Pennsylvania, and 8% in the rest of the Northeast, this is no surprise. In fact, approximately 50,000 New Yorkers move to Florida every year, simply because they are fed up with harsh northern winters. In February of 2015, for example, the average daily temperature in New York was 24.1 degrees, with a fresh new batch of sleet arriving in March.

Not in Florida! The Sunshine State’s average February low in Jupiter is 59 degrees, while the average high is 77. This comes just a month after January, the coolest month of the year, with an average low of 57 and an average high of…
