Why Do People Move to Florida? Our Beautiful Weather!
One of the huge draws to our gorgeous area is, of course, the weather. And given the fact that, according to the New York Times, 8% of all Floridians were born in New York, 4% in Pennsylvania, and 8% in the rest of the Northeast, this is no surprise. In fact, approximately 50,000 New Yorkers move to Florida every year, simply because they are fed up with harsh northern winters. In February of 2015, for example, the average daily temperature in New York was 24.1 degrees, with a fresh new batch of sleet arriving in March.
Not in Florida! The Sunshine State’s average February low in Jupiter is 59 degrees, while the average high is 77. This comes just a month after January, the coolest month of the year, with an average low of 57 and an average high of 75. This is as cold as it will get all year, with temperatures steadily climbing up to 90 for the average high in July and August, accompanied by a 76 degree low in both months, before dropping back down approximately 2 to 5 degrees a month into January. No snow, no hail, no ice. Only paradise!
The following chart illustrates the differing climates (highs/lows) between New York City, NY, Newark, NJ, Philadelphia, PA, and Jupiter, FL.
As you can see, there is a tremendous difference, especially in the November through February months, with Jupiter as much as 39 degrees warmer than New York in January. And think of all the many outdoor things you could be doing in 75 degree weather, rather than fall victim to the snow! There’s boating, fishing, parasailing, surfing, and other outdoor sports, like running, walking, or cycling. The Florida “winter” months are also a great time to hit the theme parks, as they are least crowded around this time of year. Disney World, Sea World, Islands of Adventure, and Universal Studios are some wonderful options in Orlando, which is about a 2.5 hour drive. There are also more local outdoor entertainment stops, such as Lion Country Safari, Butterfly World, Palm Beach Zoo, or even the Miami Zoo. Spring and summer are the perfect times to head to the beach, where you'll find residents and visitors, alike, relaxing on the sand and letting the sounds of crashing waves lull them to sleep. On weekends, as early as February, the Jupiter Inlet is speckled with boats full of people having fun in the sun, playing music, and enjoying the Florida lifestyle. As far as fashion goes, in Jupiter, you don’t have to worry about boots, snow jackets, leg warmers, or even gloves. In fact, your yearly casual attire will likely consist of flip flops, a t-shirt, shorts, a pair of jeans, and, of course, bathingsuits!
With year-round amazing weather and an abundance of outdoor activities at your fingertips, why wouldn’t anyone want to move to Florida?
