Florida restaurants are now able to serve more people for dine in services. The State of Florida was entered into its Full Phase One of reopening Monday, May 18th. Restaurants and dine in services have been closed or take out and delivery only since the middle of March.

Restaurants and dining establishments are now allowed to be operating at 50% capacity instead of the 25% capacity last week. Those who choose to eat out at a restaurant are still encouraged to follow the CDC guidelines for social distancing and tables must remain at least 6 feet apart from each other.

Under Phase 1 South Florida restaurants can reopen under social distancing guidelines. Mizner Park within the City of Boca Raton will provisionally allow expansion of al fresco style outdoor seating to allow more patrons to dine in while still exercising social distancing. According to the latest numbers from the Florida Department of Health, there are 39,199 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, including 1,669 deaths.

According to Governor DeSantis the first phase which includes restaurants and retail stores to operate at 2 percent capacity and restaurants with outdoor dining must keep six feet of distance between tables. With the state limiting restaurants to 25 percent of their dining rooms, West Palm Beach officials Monday unveiled a plan to make the businesses more viable by letting table service spill out onto sidewalks, streets, alleyways, and nearby lots.

The “Dining on the Spot” plan comes as the state eases mandates of business closings but seeks to maintain social-distancing and other hygienic requirements to prevent a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

It could take effect as soon as Friday, city officials said.

The city of West Palm has more than doubled its contributions to Restaurateur Rodney Mayo’s nonprofit established to feed workers who have been laid off because the Coronavirus.

Mayo is one of the owners of Subculture Group, which is one of the Palm Beaches most successful restaurant organizations owning 17 establishments from Subculture Coffee, to Howley’s, Camelot, and many other popular destinations.

Like many restaurants, the Subculture Group was forced to lay off workers due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. But owner Mayo committed to keeping one location (Howley’s) open to ensure his laid-off employees continued to get fed.
