This Saturday marks the June summer solstice and the official start of the summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

The summer solstice occurs this Saturday, June 20th at 5:44pm eastern standard time. This date marks the official beginning of summer. This happens when the earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt towards the sun. This results in the longest day of the year and the shortest night of the calendar year. Longest day means the longest period of daylight. In the Southern Hemisphere, the June solstice marks the beginning of winter.

The timing of the June solstice is not based on a specific calendar date or time. It all depends on when the sun reaches its northern point from the equator meaning it does…

Juno Beach is a popular sea turtle nesting location where thousands of sea turtles lay their eggs in…

The Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach is seeing a massive number in leatherback sea turtle nests along the beach. Sea Turtle Nesting Season starts in March and continues until the end of October.

The nearly 10 mile stretch of beach that the sea turtle research and rehabilitation center monitor has counted to date 69 nests, which is significantly more than normal for this time of year.  Each nest usually contains roughly about 100 eggs that require 45 days to 60 days to hatch.

Juno Beach is one of the largest sea turtle nesting locations in the world. The main reason why Juno Beach is the most populated sea turtle nesting location is because of the close proximity to the Gulf Stream current that bends towards Florida.
