The city of Palm Beach Gardens is suitably named, as it is comprised of 30 percent flourishing greenery. Located seven miles north of West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens is known for its excellent shopping, dining, and entertainment opportunities at the Gardens Mall, Downtown at the Gardens, and Legacy Place. Boating and fishing are plentiful, as are beautiful luxurious waterfront homes, some even sitting directly on the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, if not the Intracoastal Waterway.

In October 2017, Americans purchased homes at the fastest pace in a decade- a 6.2% monthly increase nationally, and a 16% monthly increase in Palm Beach County, according to the Florida Realtors Association.

Why are people buying?

One contributing factor could be the result of the national interest rate on 30-year fixed mortgages continuing to drop. Last week mortgage rates dropped from 3.95% to 3.92% in comparison to 4.03% in 2016 (National Association of Realtors). Historically, lower mortgage rates have helped drive home sales and those looking to refinance the market.

Sandi, the world's only 600-ton sand tree, is returning to West Palm Beach! Sandi has become a magical tradition in the area, carrying a story every time she comes back into town, telling us about where she's been and what she's been doing the whole year. The "Insane Inflatable 5k" is coming to West Palm Beach tomorrow! This is the world's largest inflatable obstacle course. It is a super fun 5k (3.1 mi) run that challenges participants with 11 blow-up obstacles throughout the track. They aren't small obstacles either- it's just something you have to see- you can check out a video here. The Andrew “Red” Harris Reef Foundation is a Jupiter based foundation dedicated to enhancing the marine environment. Memories of Andrew “Red” Harris are of a promising, vibrant and loving young man. The native Jupiter resident loved his family and friends dearly, as well as fishing and diving in ocean waters. Tragically, Andrew was struck by a boat while saving a friend's life snorkeling June 8, 2014.

The Andrew "Red" Harris Foundation hopes to assist protecting the wellbeing and vitality of our local ocean waters by building artificial reefs. The artificial reefs are donated to the Palm Beach County Artificial Reef Program. A summary of July 2017 existing home sales in South Florida  indicates sales data showing that housing market activity this July fell from last month, but improved from last year. 

Sales of homes on the market slipped to their lowest level of the year in July 2017. As the conversant undercurrents of "lean supply and enthusiastic demand lingers. It continues to strain the housing market, although it reached 5.44 million,” according to Association of Realtors  The Association of Realtors also noted “that it was down 1.3% from a downwardly-revised June pace. While July’s pace was 2.1% higher than a year ago, it was the lowest since last August”.

September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, and to help bring awareness to ovarian cancer.  This year will be the 6th Annual H.O.W. Teal & Tango in Palm Beach County. Ovarian cancer is an insidious disease. Nicknamed the “Whisper Killer” because the symptoms are so subtle that the disease usually goes undetected until it is often too late for successful treatment.

In the Palm Beaches we are Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper raises money to support basic or translational research in ovarian cancer through the Jacquie Liggett Research Fellowship. Women with ovarian cancer experiencing financial need are helped through the Jacquie Liggett Angel Fund.
