The Town of Jupiter and the Village of Tequesta are nestled between Palm Beach Gardens and Stuart. Both areas cater to the outdoor style, as they wrap around the Loxahatchee River and Intracoastal Waterway, which provide incomparable views to residents. For this reason, water sports and boating are abundant. Jupiter and Tequesta also offer their share of championship golf courses and pristine beaches frequented often under consistently sunny skies.

Mike Weeks of Jupiter stood over his bogey putt on the 54th hole with a chance to record three consecutive rounds of 67. While he missed the putt (he shot a 68) his three day total of 202 was not only good enough to win the 38th Palm Beach Kennel Club County Amateur Championship, it was also good enough to break the tournament record.

“It’s a huge relief,” said Weeks, 49, the membership director at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach. “People have been telling me for years that this was a tournament I should win, it’s a tournament I’ve wanted to win, and now I’ve finally did it.”

He broke the previous record of 203 set by Erik Downs of West Palm Beach in 2010. With the win, Weeks was also…

Florida, Power & Light will be replacing feeder lines, cables that provide electricity to local barrier islands, as needed. Palm Beach, Jupiter Island and Singer Island are some of the barrier islands within the state of Florida that will have the cables replaced.  Years ago, Florida, Power & Light buried the cables under the floor of the Intracoastal Waterway.  These cables fee electricity from the mainland to the barrier island and all the residents.  Overtime, shifting currents and sand have exposed many of the cables.

FPL plans on replacing one cable per year.  Substituting cables will cost from $1 million to $3 million each. By replacing the cables, it enables them to deliver power as well as reroute power around trouble spots to strengthen the system…

After visiting spring training locations in Arizona last week, officials with the Houston Astros have committed to trying to get a spring training facility built in Palm Beach Gardens.

“Our focus is making a deal in Palm Beach Gardens. We are not looking anywhere else,” said Giles Kibbe, the general counsel to Houston Astros owner Jim Crane.

The proposed spring training facility would be off of Central Boulevard on the north side of 117th Court North on an 82-acre piece of county owned land. The biggest variable in getting the stadium approved is the estimated $100 million cost to build the facility. The state would pay for half of the cost but the city and county would need to come up with the other $50 million.

On Saturday, about a dozen dogs traded in their leashes for live vests and rode surfboards as part of the first event Dog Surfing Competition. Taking to the beach just south of Carlin Park in Jupiter, the event raised money for the Wellington based Big Dog Ranch Rescue.

Despite the rough waves and rip currents, over 500 people and their “furry friends” attended the event put on by Ocean Magic Surf Shop in Jupiter.

Big Dog Ranch is a no-kill dog rescue facility that provides shelter, care, and affection to homeless and unwanted dogs of all breeds. They then adopt the dogs to people that are willing and able to take them.

The event was so successful that Ocean Magic hopes to make the dog surfing competition an annual event. Months were spent organizing…

Sunny Florida landed seven out of the 15 locations across the country deemed by industry analyst RealtyTrac as the most ideal for retirees.

Those living out their golden years should do so in Naples, North Fort Myers, Punta Gorda or Venice, all in the southwest region of the state; Orange City, near Jacksonville; or Sun City Center, east of Tampa. Among the categories RealtyTrac used to rate each municipality were percentage of population of retirement age; average temperature; cost of living index; and median sales price. In all of the cities on the list, at least one-third of the population is retirement age.

While southeast Florida did…
