Every year the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington hosts its Winter Equestrian Festival. The festival is the world’s premier equestrian event. The festival offers competitions for professional equestrians, adult, junior, and children amateur in 70 unique divisions.

The competition and festival runs for 12 weeks and participants range in age from 2 years to 70 years old with more than 6,000 horses and more than a half a billion dollars in prices. The festival is the longest and largest running horse show that only sees the best riders of their class from more than 42 countries.

For 17 days the South Florida Fair Grounds transforms into pure fun. The South Florida Fair is considered one of the top fairs in Florida filled with great food, rides, tribute bands, and much more. The Fair is coming to our area Friday, January 18th through Sunday, February 3rd.

Last weekend across the state of Florida was the “Lionfish Removal and Awareness Festival” hosted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The weekend is dedicated to getting local fishermen and avid boaters to take to the Floridian waters and help eradicate the invasive lionfish. 

The weekend long event that took place across the state was a huge success! More than 14,000 lionfish were removed statewide. “These numbers are a great example of the agency’s efforts to get the public educated about and involved in lionfish removal,” said Jessica McCawley, FWC's Division of Marine Fisheries Management director. “Events like this one will encourage continued involvement in proactively and successfully removing lionfish.”

Newly added this year to the schedule of events put on in south Florida is the “2016 Suite of Eco-Adventures” presented by the Florida Coastal Office. This schedule of eco-adventures is going to be taking place at four different locations around the state of Florida. These adventures will take participants on amazing adventures like kayaking journeys, catamaran sails, snorkeling explorations, wading trips into the water and educational boat tours. Each of the activities will be specially geared towards educating the guests and encouraging them to explore their local Floridian environments.
