The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach welcomes the Miami City Ballet for a special exhibition.  To celebrate the arrival of “Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection” at the Norton Museum of Art. The Miami City Ballet will perform José Limón’s The Moors Pavane as part of the exhibition’s special programming on October 29 at 7:00 p.m.

The performance will be followed by a conversation and Q&A with Dante Puleio, artistic director of the José Limón Dance Foundation, and Daniel Lewis, president of Miami Dance Futures.

Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of attending an event at the Kravis Center for Performing Arts in Downtown West Palm Beach understands the level of class and brilliance this venue provides. I was lucky enough to walk across the Kravis Center stage as part of a graduating class of Alexander W. Dreyfoos High School of the Arts, and have experienced the wonderment of their regal ballet performance, The Nutcracker, as one of our family holiday traditions. While the Kravis Center is most notable for the performances it produces, this year outstanding remarks will be made about The Center itself after $50 million worth of upgrades are polished off.

 South Florida plays host to the 24th International Ballet Festival Closing Gala of the Stars. The cultural event takes place August 18, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, 2901 West Flagler Street, Miami.

The International Ballet Festival returned to South Florida for a glorious season. West Palm Beach dancer and Alexander W. Dreyfoos High School of the Arts alumni Darius Hickman has made it as one of the top 4 finalists on the popular TV competition So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD).

As an aspiring professional dancer and now TV star, Hickman has worked extremely hard to make it this far. He began serious training in ballet and contemporary dance at BAK Middle School of the Arts in 8th grade, and fine-tuned his talent at the Florida School for Dance Education (FDSE) in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida after school. His discipline and refinement earned him acceptance into Palm Beach County’s prestigious Dreyfoos High School of the Arts, and he went on to be a Young Arts finalist as well as won 1st place for his contemporary work at…

Lessons for "Wee Royals" range from arts and culture to science, and there are two sessions each week to allow for busy parents to factor it into their schedules. Choose from session one between 3 and 4 pm or session two between 4 and 5 pm.

 

The “Wee Royals of the West” lesson on Tuesday, September 11th, will be led by Ballet Florida, who’s Mission is to support dance creation, education, and preservation through the highest quality performances and educational programming; and to reach the widest possible audience to deepen the public appreciation of dance as an art form.
