On August 25th, 2018, Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse will be hosting a moonrise tour to view the full moon from the top of the lighthouse.

On this day, the moon will be in “Waxing Gibbous” phase, meaning it is more than 50% illuminated but not yet a full moon, with the complete full moon actually happening at 7:56 am the next morning.  However, the moon will be high in the eastern sky around sunset, and will be 99% illuminated, providing for an all-around picturesque view.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the August full moon is called the Sturgeon Moon because sturgeon (a type of northern fish) are more easily caught in August during this moon. Hopefully, in true South Florida style, the stars will align and lucky fisherman will be calling this…

As the legend goes, McCoy was a moonshiner here in South Florida during the times of Prohibition.  He had a hidden speakeasy and a reputation for the best moonshine. People from all walks of life came to indulge in his spirits. To hide from authorities, McCoy had livestock and goats on his land.  The only problem was that the goats would knock over the stills and drink the moonshine.  Guests of the speakeasy loved to watch the drunken goats and relish the evening.

Have you ever heard of a Swedish Coffee house?  Swedish tradition of a coffee break is called fika. A fika isn't just a coffee break.  It's a moment to leisurely slow down and appreciate the good things in life.  It’s a simple concept. It's a chance to take a break, with a cup of coffee or tea with alone or with a friend and a bite to eat.

In the American culture, coffee has come to be more about grabbing a 16-ounce-grande-whatever, in a paper cup to go, coffee is more about fueling up and going fast. Coffee was the choice over tea after the Boston Tea Party, it was considered unpatriotic to drink tea. Colonists soon found that they could import coffee grown in Central and South America. By the beginning of the 1900's, fast moving Americans half of…
