Beach Party 1963
Annette Funicello, who won America’s heart as a 12 year old in Mickey Mouse ears in the original Mickey Mouse Club and star of numerous “beach party” films in the 1960’s,  has died.   Funicello, who was 70, passed away “peacefully from complications due to multiple sclerosis, a disease she battled for over 25 years” according to a Disney statement.

The most enduring images of Funicello may be of her in a swimsuit in the slightly spicy beach party movies…

Many visitors frequent Jupiter and the Singer Island areas looking to get a piece of the restorative beach.  There is a lot of research indicating what sounds humans find stress inducing and obnoxious and what sounds are most pleasing.   It turns out the most pleasurable sounds have predictable wave patterns, soft volumes, and harmonic frequencies at regular intervals. Traffic and airplane noise cause the body to release higher levels of cortisol, a stress hormone, which can lead to ulcers and heart disease.  Sounds from the ocean, by…

On October 15, 2012, victims’ families of 9/11 were given the opportunity to watch pre-trial hearings in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Only military installations in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts were given the opportunity to share the feed via closed circuit television.  The hearings are the first since the May 5th arraignment in which the defendants refused to cooperate.  They have been delayed because one of the defense attorneys was defending a man about to be executed in the States, a power outage on the islands’ courthouse postponed the next scheduled proceedings, religious observations, and then Tropical Storm Isaac churned up.  This session is closed to the public.
