Unusual Baits to Fool Big Bass

It might be time to mix it up with some abnormal looking bait that you never thought could get a Bass’s attention. Largemouth Bass are very confident feeders that are capable of confronting large prey items- hence the nickname “bucket mouth.” Effortlessly absorbing prey nearly the size of them, largemouth bass rule freshwater shallows and normally do not let chances go to waste.

Big Bass often keen on frogs, lizards, birds, mice, snakes and more. Artificial water snakes are common throughout South Florida, slithering across lily pads. Field mice and rats normally hunt along the shorelines and sometimes will go for a swim. Nothing better to a largemouth bass than a tired mouse that is struggling and is tempted to climb on…

Show your beach cruiser some love.  Spruce it up with a basket (attach with zip ties) a new bell, or a new coat of paint.

Celebrate the Full Strawberry Moon on June 13.  American Indians believed the fruit was at its peak when the summer’s moon rose.    Drizzle berry sauce over fresh pound cake tonight.

Paint your porch, or maybe a few planted pots outside, in summer colors like orchid and citrus  It will brighten up your outdoor living space.

Tackle a beach obstacle course.  Set up your own or visit one. Hard Exercise Works, in Jupiter, offers daily obstacle course workouts and 5-week boot camps.

June 6, 1944 was the day Western Allied forces landed in Normandy, France.  Just after midnight, the Allied assault upon Hitler’s European stronghold began.  The operation caught the Nazi high command off guard.  Low tides and very bad weather convinced them that an attack was unlikely.

Airborne infantry made the initial attack, more than 1,000 British bombers pummeled Normandy’s coastline.   The first confirmation of a large-scale attack did not arrive until 2:15 a.m. and news an invasion was in progress was not confirmed until 4:15 a.m.,  it was not until almost sunrise at 6:00 a.m. , when any doubt was removed, when the horizon was covered by an unbroken line of Allied warships.

More than 160,000 Allied troops landed along the 50-mile stretch…

South Florida Tourism

Now that the sun is warming up the northeast, the south Florida ‘season’ for tourism begins to wind down. Our winter season (which isn’t super wintery) has just been bustling and as it ended it set records. Across the nation hotels and resorts boasted 90 percent occupancy in February. The chief marketing officer for Visit Florida, the tourism agency for the state, Paul Phipps, noted that Florida’s hotel occupancy was 80 percent in March of 2014.  This is 20 percent…
