This Saturday, November 30th, Florida residents and visitors have the chance to fish without the need for a saltwater fishing license. If you’ve been wondering what all the buzz is about, but you haven’t had the chance to purchase your fishing license, grab pole and some tackle from one of the many local tackle shops in the area and give it a shot.

This day is part of eight total license-free fishing days the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission offers each year when anglers are not required to have a fishing license to participate.

Known as one of the prettiest fish on a Florida reef, parrotfish have vibrant patterned scales of green, blue, purple, yellow, and red. If you’re diving on one of our local natural or artificial reefs, you’re bound to see a few of these gentle beauties grazing on the bottom.

While being beautiful should be reason enough not to bring a parrotfish home for dinner, many people bring home parrotfish to keep in their aquarium for this same reason. However, there are many reasons we must leave this gorgeous grazer in the ocean!

Parrotfish spend up to 90% of their day eating algae and dead coral- basically cleaning the reef! This is so important, because without their help, reefs would be smothered by growth and die.

On the third Saturday of every month, a large group from Blue Friends and the public get together and hosts their monthly Beach Clean Up.

The Beach Clean Up takes place along the beaches of Juno Beach. The Clean Up last approximately an hour and you are asked to bring gardening gloves, buckets and sun protection to help participate.

Following the Beach Clean Up, there will be a light breakfast sponsored by Whole Foods Market in Palm Beach Gardens and complimentary coffee by Oceana Coffee.

The Beach Clean Up’s are to help to keep our beaches clean that thousands of sea turtles gather and nest along the shores of Juno Beach. By keeping the beaches clean, the sea turtle nests and sea turtles can stay strong and heathy.

Join the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum for their Annual Rendezvous at the Light fundraiser to help benefit the lighthouse.

The annual waterfront fundraiser is back for another year and this year the event plans to be better than ever. The fundraiser is the biggest fundraiser held at the Jupiter Lighthouse and the proceeds go towards helping to lighthouse run and operate, help to preserve the heritage site and help to promote more educational programs.

 If you have been to the beach lately, you've probably seen the incredible amount of seaweed washed up on our coastline. South Florida is currently experiencing substantial amounts of seaweed beaching up on the coastline. Due to this influx of seaweed, Palm Beach County has taken the initiative to protect turtle season and keep locals happy.

On the north end of the county, researchers at Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Juno Beach, are keeping an eye on it, making sure it doesn’t negatively impact nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings. The influx of seaweed is called sargassum and occurs naturally.
