The fair is back in Martin County now through February 17th!

The Martin County Fair is actually a 501c3 non-profit organization whose goal is to entertain and promote community traditions, talents, diversity, vision, and agricultural heritage.

It is the largest event in the county attracting more than 70,000 people. The fair has been held for the past 55 years and the money raised goes to improve local facilities, scholarships to students, and programs for Martin County youth.

Take a trip up to Fort Pierce this weekend for the 39th annual Greek Festival!

Enjoy authentic Greek food, imported Greek wine, beer, and other drinks, traditional music and dancing, performances, and much more.

The festival takes place Friday-Sunday, February 9th-11th at the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. It goes from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday.

Some food items include Spanakopita (Greek-style spinach and cheese pie in a crispy filo crust), Soutzoukakia (Greek-style meatballs in seasoned tomato sauce), Dolmades (grape leaves stuffed with ground beef and rice topped with lemon sauce), and of course Gyros. The Savannas Preserve State Park is the largest, most conserved remainder of the savannas on Florida's east coast. 

The savannas are a 10-mile stretch of freshwater marshes from Jensen Beach to Fort Pierce. The land is home to many diverse habitats and is an endangered natural system. 

The state park entrance to the savannas includes an Environmental Education Center, hiking trails, and canoe/kayak access points.

The undisturbed area is a favorite for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts with its beautiful scenery, wild flowers, birds, and other animals. Eight miles of trails are often used for biking, hiking, and horesback riding. The most popular activities in the park are fishing, canoeing and kayaking.

Hawk's Bluff is a gateway to a hidden world on the Florida east coast. Apart of the Savannas Preserve State Park, Hawk's Bluff is one of three entrances to the park, but definitely the most spectacular. 

The savannas are a 10 mile stretch of low-lying open wetlands from Jensen Beach to Fort Pierce. In these freshwater marshes you can see many different birds, turtles, fish, and even deer. 

Hawk's Bluff is in Jensen Beach atop one of the highest points in the area and just over a mile from the ocean. The trail is a 1.1 mile hike down sand dunes into the wetlands. Skip I-95 traffic and take a plane ride overlooking the gorgeous Florida coast instead. Fly the Whale, a small commercial airline featuring small plane charter flights, is opening up a new service taking customers from Fort Pierce to Tallahassee and soon to the Bahamas. 

Starting January 8th, Fly the Whale will debut flights from the Treasure Coast International Airport on St. Lucie Boulevard. Flights will depart on Mondays at 8 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. On Thursdays flights leave at 3 p.m. and return at 5:30 p.m. The trip from Fort Pierce to Tallahassee will take 1 hour and 42 minutes... as opposed to about 5 and a half hours driving the interstate.
