June 6, 1944 was the day Western Allied forces landed in Normandy, France.  Just after midnight, the Allied assault upon Hitler’s European stronghold began.  The operation caught the Nazi high command off guard.  Low tides and very bad weather convinced them that an attack was unlikely.

Airborne infantry made the initial attack, more than 1,000 British bombers pummeled Normandy’s coastline.   The first confirmation of a large-scale attack did not arrive until 2:15 a.m. and news an invasion was in progress was not confirmed until 4:15 a.m.,  it was not until almost sunrise at 6:00 a.m. , when any doubt was removed, when the horizon was covered by an unbroken line of Allied warships.

More than 160,000 Allied troops landed along the 50-mile stretch…

New restaurant plans would be the latest in the area, with public boat slips, on the waterway near the Jupiter Inlet.

Demolishing, not renovating, is the latest plan for the now-vacant Brix Italian Fishery off U.S. 1, south of Jupiter Island, according to plans submitted to the Town Council of Jupiter.

The Town Council of Jupiter, last fall gave unanimous approval, for the owners to remodel the building. The plan includes outdoor seating and a public dock with nine boat slips on the Loxahatchee River, according to the plan submitted by Bjarne Borg, co-founder of the Stockholm-based Index Investment Co. that owns the property.

The original plan called for 350 seats and a 23-seat outdoor cabana bar with valet parking. This would also be North American…

The owner of the beloved historic boathouse, known as the Sperry Boathouse, located in Jupiter Inlet Village is currently being re-wrapped for safety and preservation during hurricane season.  Did you know that the original boathouse was built in 1905 by William Sperry of S&H Green Stamps?

In 1853, the United States government began construction of the Jupiter Lighthouse.  It was one of the first locations selected for navigational aid by the U.S. Lighthouse Board.  No known inhabitants lived anywhere near the lighthouse area of construction.  All supplies had to be delivered by ship; many lives were lost by the treacherous coastline.  The lighthouse was completed in 1859. Other than light housekeepers and their families, Jupiter was a very desolate…

Everyone wants to be outside sunbathing, swimming, playing on the beach / pool, or just barbequing in the backyard.  While summer means fun in the sun, make sure you are not getting too much of a good thing.  Avoid consequences of overexposure to the sun like sunburns, premature aging of the skin, wrinkling, and skin cancer, including melanoma, by practicing proper skin protection.

The hours between 10a.m. and 4p.m. daylight savings time and (9a.m. and 3p.m. standard time) are the most hazardous for ultraviolet exposure in the continental United States. Archeologist, Christian Davenport, uncovered some great facts about Jupiter’s beloved Pineapple House of Dubois Park.  Davenport, archeologist for Palm Beach County, discovered these findings when the county purchased the Dubois-Kindt property, located within Dubois Park, in 2010. It included the Pineapple House, which was built by Harry DuBois in the late 1800s to house his pineapple crop before shipping it out.

The DuBois family history started when Harry Dubois, who worked with Captain Carlin and the Jupiter Life Saving Station, married schoolteacher Susan Saunders and built her a home on top of the historical Indian mound in Dubois Park. Their son, John, was born in 1899 in the new house. John later married Bessie Wilson, who arrived in Jupiter with…
