  • Banning or taxing any or all the ten most common single-use plastics.

If you’re stuck at the dock, here is a step by step guide to fishing for snook before season ends on May 31st!

Step 1: Buy a fishing license WITH a snook permit.

Snook is a highly regulated species due to its delicious white flesh and previous overfishing. It used to be on every menu in South Florida, and they don’t multiply as fast as pelagic species like mahi-mahi. If you get caught fishing without a permit, you’re in big trouble! You can purchase your permit from FWC here: https://gooutdoorsflorida.com/. The best deal is the “Saltwater…

South Florida needs to stay informed. We need to get the latest most valid information on guidelines for prevention by the media and then plan accordingly. Addressing the unknown is very difficult. In the face of an epidemic, we are uncertain how to respond. Let’s all take a deep breath and long exhale.

Threatened by contagion, alarmed by unknown risks, we move into survival mode. We need to relax.  We ruminate. We have the urge to connect and the fear of contamination. We become inundated with mass media warnings and alarming information. Fear can pull us into anger and uncertainty. It exhausts us.

Shutting off the news and taking a walk or make a puzzle help reduce stress. Daily routines like exercise of any type, biking, running, playing…

Many area residents have wrongly presumed that Donald Ross Road in Jupiter was named for legendary golf course designer Donald Ross who designed Seminole Golf Club in North Palm Beach.  Beautiful gated communities such as Bears Club, Trump National, and others buffer the active roadway. Are you curious who or what inspired the busy thoroughfare’s namesake?

Ellison Wilson was a young man whose family founded Kelsey City (Lake Park).  The family moved from Tennessee to the area in 1923. Ellison was one of eight siblings who also spent many days enjoying the local waterways.  The Wilson’s had a farm along the Intracoastal Waterway, running parallel to Prosperity Farms Road (near The Benjamin School).  His mother was beloved principal of Lake Park…

With the warmer weather fast approaching, getting out on a boat is one of South Florida’s favorite activities. Since 2010, the State of Florida has required that any person who wishes to operate a vessel of 10 horsepower or more and is born after January 1st, 1988, must pass and complete a Boating Safety Course.

Florida does not have a “boating license” but a Boating Safety Education Identification Card. The card is proof of a successful completion of the course and a pass on the exam.  The Identification Card is valid for life and no renewal fees or continuing education course is required once the course is completed and the exam is passed. However, you are asked to continue to review and follow the current boating rules and regulations.

Located between Hobe Sound and Tequesta is the Jonathan Dickinson State Park. The State Park is home to 16 distinct natural communities that make up the park.

The 10,500-acre park was named after Jonathan Dickinson, a Quaker merchant who became shipwrecked off the coast nearby in 1696.  The grounds in World War II were used as a secret training school and camp called Camp Murphy with over 6,600 men. Following the war the land became now known as Jonathan Dickinson State Park in 1950.

Today the State Park is used for many outdoor activities and events.  Throughout the park visitors can enjoy several boat tours, bike trails, hiking trails, boat ramps, canoeing, kayaks, camping, fishing, equestrian trails, swimming, picnics, cabin rentals, geo-seeing…
