Boston Marathon Explosions

Three people died and more than 150 were injured after two explosions ripped toward the finish line of the Boston Marathon.  Reactions poured in from around the world today on the twin bombing in Boston:

PAKISTANI TALIBAN: denied any role in the bombings at the Boston Marathon.  The group’s representative, Ahsanullah Ahsan, denied involvement in a telephone call with the Associated Press from an undisclosed location.

FRENCH PRESIDENT – FRANCOIS HOLLANDE: sent his condolences to the families of the victims and expressed “Frances’s total solidarity” with the American people and authorities.

MAYOR OF LONDON – BORIS JOHNSON:  “The bombings in Boston are shocking, cowardly and horrific, and the thoughts of all Londoners this morning will be the victims. …

Beach Party 1963
Annette Funicello, who won America’s heart as a 12 year old in Mickey Mouse ears in the original Mickey Mouse Club and star of numerous “beach party” films in the 1960’s,  has died.   Funicello, who was 70, passed away “peacefully from complications due to multiple sclerosis, a disease she battled for over 25 years” according to a Disney statement.

Walt Disney personally discovered Annette, while she was dancing lead in a production of “Swan Lake” in Burbank, CA and she was the last of the 24 cast members chosen for “The Mickey Mouse Club”.  Funicello quickly became one of the most popular Mouseketeers and in 1992, she was inducted as a Disney Legend.

Biomedical Speakers Come to Admirals Cove

The Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University is a premiere, research medical school dedicated to biomedical investigative studies and procurement of ethical and compassionate scientists and physicians.  Inspired by their namesake, the university “welcomes students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds who strive to enhance human health in the community and beyond.”  Education is the heart of Einstein’s undertaking although they are a leader in biomedical research.  During 2012, Einstein faculty received nearly $160 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health.

Admirals Cove 2013 Club Championship

The best golfers in the community gathered last weekend and braved the uncharacteristically chilly temperatures all in a quest for the coveted title of Admirals Cove Club Champion!   Spectators and participants wondered how the frigid air would effect the performances.  No need to worry, some local Jupiter residents and veteran snowbirds accustomed to the temperatures played through, and as the day warmed, phenomenal golf played with lots of great shots from all.

Born one of six children, Anna Lou Leibovitz probably never imagined herself as a modern day cultural icon, much like one of the subjects of her world famous photographs. She grew up in Connecticut to an Air Force Lieutenant father and a dance instructor mother. Annie eventually enrolled in at the San Francisco Art Institute to study painting and developed a love for photography. 

After living briefly in Israel, Leibovitz returned to the States, applied for an up, and coming new rock and roll magazine “Rolling Stone”.  She was offered a job as a staff photographer.  At the age of 23, she was promoted to the position of chief photographer of the magazine.  She left “Rolling Stone” after ten years and began working for “Vanity Fair” magazine.  This…

Matisyahu Coming to Jupiter! AEG  LIVE presents Matisyahu live in concert beginning at 6:30 pm, doors open at 5:30pm.  Grammy nominated reggae and alternative rock musician Matisyahu will be headlining Saturday night Halloween Fest at the Seabreeze Amphitheatre.  Other artists to be performing that evening will be The Constellations, Fresh Catch and DJ Lance of Kulcha Shok.

The concert kicks off Matisyahu’s fall tour for his latest album.  Interestingly, he grew up in White Plains, NY as Matthew Paul Miller, attending Hebrew school at the local synagogue.  He rebelled for a bit, dropped out of high school, took a wrong turn and ending up finishing high school at a wilderness program in Oregon.  Eventually he reconnected with his Jewish roots and adopted Orthodox Judaism.  At 19, he…

Photographs and paintings made by Admiral’s Cove residents graced the walls of the Eissey Campus Theatre in Palm Beach Gardens this Spring as part of the Admiral’s Cove Art Exhibition.

The wide-ranging pieces of art, which include oil, acrylic, watercolor, sculpture and stained glass, all were created by the hands of homeowners. Gary Bard, a glass artist who produced the showcase, said the talent that thrives within the Admiral’s Cove real estate is astounding.

“We are always amazed at the talent in our community,” Bard said. “It seems to be better each year. Who knows, there may be a new Picasso in the group.”

The exhibition encourages residents to show off their creative side and has grown to 45 artists. The pieces are hung in the clubhouse…
