With the warmer weather fast approaching, getting out on a boat is one of South Florida’s favorite activities. Since 2010, the State of Florida has required that any person who wishes to operate a vessel of 10 horsepower or more and is born after January 1st, 1988, must pass and complete a Boating Safety Course.

Florida does not have a “boating license” but a Boating Safety Education Identification Card. The card is proof of a successful completion of the course and a pass on the exam.  The Identification Card is valid for life and no renewal fees or continuing education course is required once the course is completed and the exam is passed. However, you are asked to continue to review and follow the current boating rules and regulations.
