Today, Martin County leaders will meet up and discuss the county’s next steps in reopening. County Commissioners are holding a meeting this morning at the Blake Library in downtown Stuart. 

The meeting today will review the state guidelines that Governor DeSantis laid out earlier this week about Florida’s plan to reopen in phases. The County Commissioners are currently meeting to make the best decision for the Martin County residents.

Earlier this week, Governor DeSantis announced a slow plan to reopen the state of Florida and Palm Beach County.  It was announced on Monday by the Palm Beach County Mayor and County Commissioners that some recreational facilities may reopen as of yesterday with restrictions to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.  

Yesterday, Wednesday, April 29th, many recreational facilities in Palm Beach County after being closed for the past few weeks due to Covid-19.  Many parks in Palm Beach County reopened yesterday but not all.

Governor DeSantis and Palm Beach County Commissioners and Mayor announced some positive news about the slow down of Covid-19 in South Florida and the start of reopening Florida. 

Palm Beach County is taking gradual steps to start to reopen the county in a safe way. On Monday afternoon, the county commissioners announced that starting yesterday Wednesday, April 29th marinas, public parks, boat ramps, community pools, golf courses, tennis courts and other recreational facilities will begin to open with restrictions and maintaining social distancing practices. While the Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens is temporarily closed to shoppers and visitors, the Food Court and several restaurants are open for take out and delivery. 

For food delivery’s, orders can be placed online through Delivery Dudes, PostMates, Door Dash, Uber Eats or directly from the restaurant. 

Restaurants Open Include: 

1. California Pizza Kitchen: Located in the Food Court is open for both take out and delivery

2. P.F. Changs: Located on the first floor of the mall, near Nordstrom’s is open for take out and delivery.

The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is currently closed to visitors but school children from across Jupiter and South Florida will have the opportunity to learn about the state’s rich natural history online.  

The online history classes will be led by the children’s book author Harvey Oyer III, Oyer will expand on the stories in his beloved The Adventures of Charlie Pierce series. Many schools in Palm Beach County use Oyer’s books as part of the history curriculum. 

The online classes are aimed for fourth graders but all are welcomed to watch the videos and use the resources. The segments include PowerPoint’s, crossword, coloring sheets, word search, biography, educational videos and more all available online.

The South Florida Science Center and Aquarium is busy keeping young learners and science enthusiasts busy during this time. The popular West Palm Beach attraction is offering free virtual Science experiments and fairs for kids in grades kindergarten through eight grade. 

Students are invited to head to their website and try the experiments out at home while being instructed online. The Virtual Science Fair will hosts sessions throughout the month of April and May and those who participate can compete in one or all of the themed weeks and events.  Participants will be spilt up by grades and a panel of judges will announce the winners from each grade and category. 

Participation is free with donations requested.

The State of Florida has recently announced this week that schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year and students will continue with virtual learning. In Palm Beach County, the last official day for students is Friday, May 29th. 

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 and Florida being in a Stay at Home order until further notice, Florida schools have turned to virtually Graduation Ceremonies for the 2019-2020 Class Seniors.  This week, the Palm Beach County School District released the dates for the virtual graduation ceremonies for seniors in county schools.
