 The 4th Annual Veterans Family Fishing Classic will be held on Saturday, October 13th at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse. All local veterans and their families are invited to spend the day fishing and exploring the lighthouse with lunch provided by Tommy Bahama.

The event will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. with fishing equipment provided. Pros will be onsite giving some shore fishing lessons for those interested and volunteers will be available to help wounded vets.

What better place to harvest solar energy than the sunny SoFlo coast? Florida Power & Light Co. is going greener by switching to solar energy and the Treasure Coast is the perfect location for solar facilities.

FPL is finishing up construction of 5 large-scale solar plants in Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties. Two in Indian River and two in St. Lucie are finished with the last base in Martin County to be built out west soon. 

Upon the 1.5 million panel completion, 30% of FPL's solar power will come from this 3% of the population area. The company found that there's a lot of remote open space on the interior of these counties and land purchases are benefiting farmers and local government.

Some people think the appropriate amount of time to celebrate Halloween is one day. For everyone else, there’s Fright Nights.

Located at the South Florida Fairgrounds for the month of October, Fright Nights features four haunted houses with live actors, carnival rides, live music, food, and entertainment. Rated a top Halloween attraction in Florida, the 2018 haunted house themes are “Twisted Tales”, “Das Krankenhaus”, “Cuckoo’s Nest 2”, and “The Mansion on Meadow Lane”.

On Saturday, October 13th, Carlin Park After Dark continues its tribute band concert series with the LET IT BE Beatles tribute. Carlin Park is putting on the free show at Seabreeze Amphitheater, concessions will be available for purchase on site, and guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets.

Breast Cancer Awareness month is here! Below are events happening in Palm Beach County where you can don your best pink outfit for a cause.

Real Men Wear Pink Concert | October 12th, 6-9 pm

Jupiter Medical Center is partnering with the Abacoa Food Truck Invasion to go pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Abacoa Town Center. The event will feature live music, breast health information, giveaways, raffle prizes, face painting, and balloon sculpting, as well as food for purchase from local food trucks.

On Friday, October 26th, the Humane Society of Greater Jupiter/Tequesta will be hosting “PAWTY Masquerade,” a party to raise money and awareness for its mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals.

The event will take place at the Wyndham Grand Jupiter located at Harbourside Place in Jupiter, Linda Gore will serve as event chairman, and the evening will be filled with excitement, fun, dinner, dancing, live and silent auctions, and lots of delightful surprises. A widely-forgotten time capsule burried 42 years ago was dug up the other week by the Wellington Historical Society. The capsule was burried at the north intersection of Wellington Trace and Forest Hill Boulevard just outside of the Country Plaza's main entrance. 

A plaque near the capsule listed the date it was buried, instructions to open it “on or about the 19th day of February, 2076” and the names of the men who buried it, Alan S. Black and Herbert P. Benn, the “founders” of Country Plaza.

But many at the plaza say they had no idea it was there, and the sudden spark in curiosity resulted in digging up the capsule early.  What was inside is a reminder of the times in the 70s.
