Get ready for the Tequesta Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, November 12, 2022, between 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. The 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Beer Tasting Event is a huge celebration for the veterans who volunteered their service to protect the United States! There are 32 chili teams participating.  The teams represent public safety, military, and private organizations.  The chili teams will compete to win the prize for the best chili and bragging rights!  

The day is action-packed, proud to be an American tribute to our veterans. American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. (AGSM), the 94-year-old Congressionally Chartered Veterans Service Organization, will host its 85th National Convention at the Hilton Palm Beach Airport, located at 150 Australian Avenue, in West Palm Beach. The exhibit runs through June 26, 2022. This year marks a unique opportunity for the public to participate in the weekend events which began on Thursday, June 23, 2022.

The exhibit and activities surrounding the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be open to the public 24 hours a day through, 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2022. During National Military Appreciation Month, the American Humane Organization encourages Palm Beach County residents to support the service dogs for veterans’ program. May is National Military Appreciation Month. It is a time when Americans everywhere pay tribute to the resolute service members who take a sacred oath to protect and serve our country. However, for veterans, the return home from war can be yet another daunting battle as they nurse wounds that might not be visible on the surface. Tragically, 184 veterans a day are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress, and twenty take their own lives as a result. 

South Florida nonprofit, American Humane aims to help these heroes with its Pups4Patriots program, which finds dogs in need of forever homes…

The 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off and Beer Tasting Event honors Palm Beach County local heroes on Saturday, November 13th, 2021, between 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. The chili cookoff will take place at One Main Street, in Tequesta.  

The food festival will be a full day of fun, food, and honoring our local heroes. The day will entail:

 - An award ceremony honoring WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Wounded Veterans, and Gold Star Families. 

- Military flyovers from the US Coast Guard, PBC Sheriff's Office, and the Pratt Whitney Black Hawk.

 - 32 Teams from public safety, military, and the private sector compete for the best chili; Judging is done by15 local celebrity judges; there is also a People's Choice Award voted on by all attendees.

 - Craft beer…

A 98-year-old World War II veteran took quite a ride on Saturday. Walter Alesi, a resident of Stuart, joined the Marine Corps out of high school after the attack on Pearl Harbor.  Alesi and four of his brothers served in World War II.

Alesi was gifted a flight from Stuart's Witham Field in a Boeing Stearman biplane courtesy of Dream Flights. Dream Flights is a non-profit organization dedicated to “giving back to those who gave”.  The Dream Flights organization was established and dedicated to honoring seniors and military veterans.

This weekend will mark the 30th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm, the United States led attack on Bagdad and Iraqi forces.  In January 1991, members from all five military branches joined a coalition to push out Saddam Hussein’s forces from Kuwait for Operation Desert Storm.  It meant the U.S. was at war for the first time since Vietnam.

In the early morning hours of January 17, 1991. Aircraft from the United States Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps began a massive air attack against targets in Kuwait and Iraq as Operation Desert Shield became Operation Desert Storm. The 5th Annual Wounded Veterans Relief Fund 5k Run/Walk honors those who are serving and those who have served the United States. This 5k raises funds to help Florida veterans who find themselves on the verge of homelessness. The Wounded Veterans Relief Fund provides veterans with housing and transportation assistance, activities, and resources to help them find their new "normal". Their mission is to save lives and keep families together. 

Not only is this 5k for a great cause, but it winds through our beloved scenic Riverbend Park, along the Loxahatchee River, and through Battefield Park. T-shirts and finisher medals are guaranteed for the first 400 registrants.

On Sunday, November 4th 2018, over 2,000 veterans and supporters will march in the largest Veterans Day Parade in Palm Beach County.

“Our hometown Veterans Day Parade is a perfect way for the entire community to take a time out and come together to show respect and appreciation for the men and women who have given and continue to give their all to insure the freedoms we enjoy as citizens of the United States of America,” said Ron Bailey, Parade Co-Chair & Vietnam Veteran.
