For nearly 8 winding miles along a sandy road is the  Historic Jungle Trail. The road meanders through the hammock habitat of Vero Beach's barrier island in Martin County. The trail is actually a hard-sandy road, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places.  It is a perfect destination for a family fun bike ride or walks.

The historically significant trail was built in the 1920’s so that South Florida citrus growers could haul their produce up and down the barrier island.  The pathway ranges from Wabasso to the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. The Historic Jungle Trail is one of the best places in the area to see the barrier island plant life and wildlife. It is located very close to the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.…
