The Flagler Museum, formally known as the Whitehall estate is one of the most famous homes and landmarks on the island of Palm Beach. The elegant 100,000 square foot estate was built in 1902 by Henry Flagler as a wedding gift to his wife Mary. Henry Flagler was an American Industrialist and founder of Standard Oil, who is known for developing Florida’s east coast and responsible for making Palm Beach, America’s first resort destination.

The grand estate features 75 rooms and was built and designed in the Gilded Age. Flagler commissioned John Carrere and Thomas Hastings to design and built the mansion for Flagler. Whitehall, Florida’s first museum, was built in 1902 as a seasonal home of Mr. Henry Flagler, cofounder of Standard Oil and son of a struggling Presbyterian minister. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the incredible Flagler Museum is taking place this Sunday from 3 to 5pm. 

This magical, holiday event features stunning performances of the piano, the organ and an incredible caroling choir. The carolers will be singing holiday classics in the courtyard while the tree is being lit. Seasonal dishes and cocktails will be served to all. Even Santa Claus will be present, greeting the little ones and taking Christmas list requests. The annual Christmas tree lighting at the Flagler Museum is one for the record books, so bring your family and friends for some holiday cheer.

One of the most famous homes in Florida’s history is the Flagler Estate and Museum. In the early 1900’s, Henry Morrison Flagler as a wedding gift to his wife built in the incredible manor and named it Whitehall.

Henry Flagler is probably most famous for his railroads. In 1912 Henry Flagler arrived aboard the first train into Key West, marking the completion of the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway's Over-Sea Railroad to Key West. With great imagination and ingenuity, Flagler became a pioneer in the rail industry of the United States.
