The American Humane, the country’s first national humane organization, is urging animal lovers to be a hero to dogs, young and old, this Adopt-A-Dog Month. Since 1981, American Humane has celebrated Adopt-a-Dog Month each October to help the millions of dogs waiting in overcrowded shelters for the loving, forever homes that they deserve. Throughout October, the public can visit AmericanHumane.org or follow American Humane’s social media channels to find resources and advice on preparing a home for a new canine companion. American Humane, America’s first national humane organization, is set to launch The Humane Table: Cooking with Compassion, a cookbook for home cooks who share the organization’s dedication to the kind and respectful treatment of animals. American Humane is in Palm Beach. The book will be released in late October to coincide with Humane for the Holidays, a campaign designed to drive awareness for creating meals featuring responsibly raised and sustainable ingredients for the fall and winter holidays.

Last week Eastern Kentucky was in the wake of catastrophic flooding that killed dozens of people and displaced thousands of residents and their pets from their homes. American Humane’s Rescue Team rushed to the impacted area. American Humane is located at 251 Royal Palm Way, Palm Beach. One of the rescue trucks was donated by internationally renowned philanthropist and Palm Beach resident, Lois Pope. This huge, 50-foot mobile rescue unit makes it possible for American Humane first responders to be on the ground and provide aid to animals and relief organizations in real-time.

During National Military Appreciation Month, the American Humane Organization encourages Palm Beach County residents to support the service dogs for veterans’ program. May is National Military Appreciation Month. It is a time when Americans everywhere pay tribute to the resolute service members who take a sacred oath to protect and serve our country. However, for veterans, the return home from war can be yet another daunting battle as they nurse wounds that might not be visible on the surface. Tragically, 184 veterans a day are diagnosed with post-traumatic stress, and twenty take their own lives as a result.
