In 2011, an investor group paid $11 million for the President Country Club in West Palm Beach. On Monday it received approval to go forward with its renovation and redevelopment project.

The group plans on converting the Patriot course, which closed in 2011, into a 119-acre commercial zone with a three story, 250 room hotel as well as 100 single family homes and a 15,000 square foot spa. The resort style hotel would have meeting and banquet facilities, outdoor pools and tennis courts, delis, snack shops, and daycare centers.

In addition, the existing golf clubhouse will be torn down and a new 20,000 square-foot clubhouse will be built on the south end of the property where is Eagle course is located.

President Country Club was originally opened in 1969 and at the time was the only private golf course east of Interstate 95 in the area. The Robert Trent Jones Jr designed Eagle course was built in 1972. The par 72 course plays at just under 6900 yards from the tips.
