It is a historic street where people come to shop, dine, relax, and conduct business.  It extends for five blocks along the center of downtown West Palm Beach from the waterfront on Flagler Drive to Rosemary Avenue.  Eclectic and historic architecture draw many to Clematis Street with “the dining, retail and entertainment options for the startup businesses, small-tech companies, creative office industries, and artists that occupy the spaces above.”

Great Places in America by the American Planning Association, was launched in 2007.  The association is a program that celebrates places “of exemplary character, quality, and planning.  Places are selected annually and represent the gold standard in terms of having a true sense of place, cultural and historical interest, community involvement, and a vision for tomorrow.   Great places people want to be – not only to visit, but to live and work every day.”

Clematis Street has evolved over the last 115 years when its beginning was as the settlement of the city by American industrialist, Henry Morrison Flagler.  Flagler was founder of what became the Florida East Coast Railway and Clematis Street became a key street for his surveyors and engineers for the East Coast Railroad in 1894.

Over the years, Clematis Street has seen its share of growth and change.  Luckily, the city has adopted a master plan, which sets forth limitations on future growth, restricting it to a pedestrian friendly environment, listing the 500 block of Clematis Street on the National Register of Historic Places (1996), and preserving the scale of the existing buildings and protects the character of the street.

Fun things happening on Clematis Street:

Nightlife draws nearly 80,000 visitors each week.

“Clematis by Night” fountain side concerts featuring food, art, local and national music talent.

“Sunday on the Waterfront” live jazz.

SunFest - where music meets the waterfront – music and arts festival.

Palm Beach Boat Show – annual boat show.

Corvettes on Clematis – annual Corvette collector show.

There are so many things to do in and around the Clematis Street area.  It is a quick ride down I-95 from Jupiter or up few minutes from the south end of town.   It’s one of the top ten streets in America – check it out!
